The mission of University Advancement is to increase public awareness and to support the
University's research, teaching and public service through fundraising efforts,
communications, alumni programs, and membership organizations. Advancement provides
a bridge between the University and both the on- and off-campus communities with the
goal of creating a climate of understanding, support, and access.
The Vice Chancellor-University Advancement reports directly to the Chancellor and
is responsible for the following areas: alumni relations, communications, development,
gifts and endowments, governmental relations, and University relations.
A. Alumni Relations
University Advancement is responsible for liaison between the University and
the alumni organizations, and for encouraging coordinated
alumni efforts on behalf of the financial and educational goals
of UCI.
The development operation is a combination of centralized and decentralized programs.
The central development staff provides expertise in various fields such as annual
giving, planned giving, corporate relations and foundation relations, and supports
campuswide initiatives. Decentralized activity occurs when development officers are
assigned to academic units across campus.
Development also coordinates the prospect management system for
the campus.
University Advancement acts as campus liaison with UC legislative
representatives in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., and
maintains contact with elected legislators and with
governmental bodies as a vital element of community relations.
University Advancement serves as a liaison between the campus and the community
and acts as liaison for the Chancellor among campus departments in matters involving
the community.
