California law states that it is ". . . the duty of a notary public to provide notary services to all persons who present a proper request and pay the required fees. Not providing services when required to do so could cause the notary to be liable if any damages result from the refusal."
All notaries on campus are first UCI employees who have the performance of their job duties as their first responsibility. While notaries whose bonds have been paid from public funds are obligated to provide services upon request to people having the proper documentation, employees should call for an appointment to assure that the notary will be available.
Staff members wishing to apply for a California Notary Public Commission should review the information provided by the California Secretary of State on the requirements for becoming a California Notary Public.
Materiel & Risk Management should be notified of the resignation or termination of service of any employee whose commission was obtained under the auspices of the University of California.
