RE: Redelegation - Deferral of Academic Review

Effective immediately, I am delegating to Academic Deans the authority to defer, upon written request, a normal academic review for an appointee in one of the following academic series:

A deferral of normal academic review may be granted to an Associate Professor or Professor in any of the above series, or to a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with Security of Employment. Review may not be deferred for Assistant Professors in any of the above series, or for Lecturers with Potential Security of Employment, because they must at a minimum be reviewed for reappointment.

Deferral may not be approved for a faculty member whose last previous action was No Action or deferral.

Requests for deferral of review should be forwarded through the Chair to the Dean for approval. If a one-year deferral is approved, the review must take place the following academic year. Copies of approved requests shall be sent to the Office of Academic Personnel, who will remain office of record for these actions.

This authority may not be further redelegated and supersedes Executive Vice Chancellor Smith's delegations on the same subject, dated January 7, 1991, and March 29, 1991.
