RE: Delegation of Authority - Allocation of Cost-of-Education Allowances Accompanying Federal Fellowships

The authority to implement the University of California revised policy concerning disposition of institutional Cost-of-Education Allowance funds received under federal fellowship programs was given to Chancellors in the August 13, 1979 policy statement from President Saxon. I am redelegating to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies and the Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies the authority to allocate such funds to participating schools and departments subject to the following conditions:

1. Disposition of federal educational allowances will be in accordance with granting agency regulations and the policies set forth in the August 13, 1979 policy statement.

2. Balances appearing on ledgers at the end of the fiscal year will be reviewed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies or the Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies and return of unused balances to Research and Graduate Studies may be required.

This authority may not be redelegated further and supersedes the April 22, 1986 delegation of authority from Chancellor Peltason on the same subject.
