RE: Redelegation of Authority - Student Discipline for Violation of Academic Honesty Policy

The Chancellor's authority to impose discipline on students for violation of University policies or campus regulations is set forth in the UC Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students (rev. August 15, 1994.)

Effective immediately, I am redelegating to Academic Deans, the Chair of the Department of Education, and the Chair of the Department of Information and Computer Science authority to impose sanctions, as defined in the UCI Academic Senate Policy on Academic Honesty, on students for violations, or attempted violations, of any University policies or campus regulations on academic honesty, in accordance with the Academic Senate Policy on Academic Honesty. The Academic Deans may redelegate this authority only to Associate Deans (Graduate and/or Undergraduate). Any such redelegations should be in writing with copies to me and those listed below. The Chairs may not redelegate this authority.

I am redelegating to the Dean of Undergraduate Education and the Dean of Graduate Studies the authority to administer campuswide sanctions, as defined in the UCI Academic Senate Policy on Academic Honesty, convene a Committee on Academic Honesty, in accordance with the Academic Senate Policy on Academic Honesty, to hear cases of campuswide sanctions imposed by Academic Deans, or delegated Associate Deans. Upon formal resolution by the Committee, the Dean of Undergraduate Education or the Dean of Graduate Studies is authorized to impose one or more of the sanctions described in section 105.00 of the UC Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students (rev. August 15, 1994).

This delegation does not modify or supersede UCI Delegation of Authority IDA095, dated July 21, 1995, which involves student discipline only in nonacademic matters; or UCI Delegation of Authority IDA225, dated June 5, 1997, which applies to student discipline in the College of Medicine.

I am retaining the authority to readmit a student after dismissal for misconduct.

Laurel L. Wilkening
Chancellor
