RE: Redelegation of Authority- Recall Appointments for Academic Appointees

Authority for academic personnel actions was delegated to the Executive Vice Chancellor by the Chancellor in his delegation of authority, dated July 3, 2000 [superseded by IDA 517, 6/19/12].

Concurrent with the February 24, 2012, issuance of Academic Personnel Manual, APM 205, Recall for Academic Appointees, I am redelegating part of that authority to you as specified below:

I am continuing to redelegate to Deans the authority to:

  • approve appointments to Recall titles for faculty and non-Senate academic appointees who have retired. All Recall appointments must be consistent with current systemwide and local policy.
  • approve Pre-Retirement appointments for faculty recalled for Post-Retirement Teaching. Such agreements must comply with the guidelines stated in the Academic Personnel Manual, Section 205-20, Recall for Academic Appointees, Terms and Conditions of Employment.

This authority may not be further redelegated. Approved recall documentation should be forwarded to the Office of Academic Personnel, who will remain office of record for these actions.

The following recall appointments require approval from the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost:

  • any appointment in excess of 43 percent time per month, inclusive of all recall appointments at any UC campus (any Summer Session recall appointment).

This redelegation supersedes my April 15, 2005, delegation of authority on the same subject (IDA 411).
