A. Eligibility for Participation
Transportation and Distribution Services provides complimentary roadside assistance for vehicles and bicycles located on the main campus or nearby locations (e.g., University Center, Irvine Apartment Communities, and Albertson's parking lot). Services are available daily 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
To be eligible for assistance, a vehicle must display a valid annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, or daily permit. Motorists must sign a waiver releasing the University from any liability in the event a vehicle is damaged.
Personal vehicle repair and maintenance activities may not be conducted on University property by Transportation and Distribution Services staff or vehicle owners.
B. Services Provided
Transportation and Distribution Services representatives will assist with the following:
- Jumpstart
Cables will be used to jumpstart a dead battery. - Vehicle Lockout
Locked vehicles will be opened. Transportation and Distribution Services representatives may elect not to assist a motorist who has a vehicle with automatic locking doors or side impact air bags. In such cases, phone contact with a locksmith or tow agency will be provided. - Use of a Gas Can
A gas can and transportation to the nearest gas station will be provided. - TireSealant/Tire Inflation
Tires will be inflated using either a can of Fix-a-Flat, an air compressor, or a combination of both. Transportation and Distribution Services representatives will not assist in the changing of tires. - Bike Tire Sealant/Tire Inflation
Bicycle tires will be sealed using a can of Fix-a-Flat and the owner will be provided with an air pump with a tire pressure gauge. Transportation and Distribution Services representatives will not assist in the changing of tires.
C. Emergency Ride Home Program
Transportation from the campus to the motorist's home will be provided in cases of serious illness or emergency and when all other options have been exhausted. This program is only available once a year and distance limits apply.
